2010-2011 Greater Northwest

Regional Officer Team

Rebecca Zeff

President

Born in Oregon, my family moved to Washington when I was eleven years old.  In 2006 I graduated from LaCenter High School where I had been involved in Basketball, and Track and Field.  My junior and senior year I competed at the WA State Track Tournament in shot put and javelin respectively.  After graduating, I spent two months in Nicaragua volunteering for the non-profit, Natural Doctors International (NDI).  Upon my return I attended The Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA where I studied Environmental Science and was a member of the women’s rowing team.  After that year I left Evergreen, moving to Colorado where I worked on an organic farm.  There I realized that my true desire is to work in the field of Medicine.  I then applied to Clark College where I began to study in the spring of 2008.  Here I am beginning my work as a pre-med student.

I was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa spring quarter of last year.  I became active in my chapter, Alpha Sigma Phi, and ran for the office of Vice President of Service.  I was elected, and have been serving in that capacity since last summer.  I have chaired numerous service projects in my chapter and lead writing the Service Hallmark and Regional Service Award Entry, both of which placed first at our 2010 Regional Conference.  Also at that conference I ran for the position of District II VP of the Greater Northwest Region 2010-2011, and was elected into the position.  I am enthusiastic about this position and look forward to serving the chapters of District II.  Please contact me with any questions.

Jeramy Harstad

District I Vice President

I grew up on a mountain in beautiful Montana before moving to Idaho to attend high school. I met my husband there and we moved to the Seattle area just in time for the birth of our daughter. After weighing the pros and cons of childcare, I decided to become a work at home mom. When I reentered the work force, working in business management was my passion. After the birth of our son I was fortunate to hold many managerial positions in a large grocery chain until last year when the economy gave me the opportunity to choose a new professional path. I will receive my ATA in Criminal Justice in June, 2011 from Skagit Valley College in Mount Vernon with hopes of becoming a local police officer. After graduation from the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission in Burien, I plan on continuing my education at Western Washington University in nearby Bellingham.

With encouragement from the officers of Theta Upsilon chapter, I became VP of Leadership shortly after my induction. I quickly grew to love everything Phi Theta Kappa is about and plan on doubling our membership as President for the 2010-2011 year!

I am eager to serve as District I Vice President, especially with the 93rd Annual Convention being held right next door in Seattle! This is an exciting time for all of us and I look forward to our time together. Thank you for allowing me this incredible honor and please don’t hesitate to contact me at any time.

Amanda Shelby

District III Vice President

I graduated from Wilbur High School of Wilbur, Washington in 1995. Outside of college life, I am a wife of ten years and a dedicated mother. I enjoy boating, fishing, cooking, and reading. I love being actively involved within my children’s lives and am currently serving my second year as a Den Leader for the Tigers, Wolves, and Bears of Pack 24 Cubscouts. I am also a room mother at my daughter’s preschool.

I attend college at Wenatchee Valley College at Omak, where I will be graduating with my Transfer Degree after spring quarter 2010. I then will join the Nursing Program in the fall 2010. I was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa in fall 2009 and became the Vice President of Fellowship soon after. Currently I serve my chapter, Alpha Kappa Eta, as President and have loved every moment. I look forward to serving as your District III Vice President for the 2010-2011 year. I am excited to work closely with our Region and get to know every chapter within my District, so please, do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, comments, or would like me to attend any of your chapter’s functions.

Jeff Desjarlais

District V Vice President

I was born and raised in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada. I graduated from McCoy High School in 2006 and after taking a year off I enrolled in the Business Administration - Management program at Medicine Hat College. This upcoming year I will be working to finalize my degree in Business Management.

Currently, I spend my time working for students and ensuring their voice is heard. I am the Vice President of the Medicine Hat College Students’ Association; I have spent the past year as the Vice President of District V for the Greater Northwest Region and I am also Vice President of AJ’s Loan Cupboard, a local charity that offers medical equipment to those in need at no expense.

I first became involved with Phi Theta Kappa in the spring of 2008. My induction into the Alpha Tau Delta chapter was an exciting experience, and I have enjoyed my time on the Greater Northwest Regional Board. I look forward to continuing this role and representing this region once again. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to contact me.

Dr. Jody Peterson

Regional Coordinator

I earned my Bachelor's degrees in history and political science in addition to a Master's degree in European History from the University of North Texas (a really long time ago!).  I then attended Washington State University to earn a Ph.D. in American History.  After teaching for several 2- and 4- year schools, I landed at Centralia College in 1998.  I become involved in Phi Theta Kappa in 2001 and became the lead advisor in 2004.  My main interests beyong history and government include reading and sleeping.  And if I wasn't a teacher, I would most likely be working as a chef in a restaurant decorated with flamingos!

I am excited to be serving the Greater Northwest Region as the Regional Coordinator.  Although it may seem far away, we only have 2 years until our region yet again hosts the International Convention - Seattle, here we come in 2011!
